A guest post about visiting Playa Coson in the Dominican Republic for labor and fun.
The town of Las Terrenas rests along the northern shores of the Samana peninsula in the northeast region of the Dominican Republic. I visited there twice with groups from my alma mater. On my most recent trip, we worked with “Foundation Mahatma Gandhi.” Under the guidance of the organization’s president, we went into the towering, round hills that skirt the town, and together with the members of a small community we cleared the site of a hefty, old trash pile, and erected a playground. The following days, we spent our time at an elementary school within the town to renew the pavement with painted games, and run sports clinics focused on introducing less popular or known sports to young girls. Here is the story of my experience visiting Playa Coson.
